My work is created through a subtractive process, using Tyvek and Mixed Media. I am focused on representing the human condition through my cut paper creations.
This piece was inspired by Maya Angelou's quote:
"| come as one, but stand as 10,000." When I walk into a room and notice I am the only Black woman present, I remind myself that I am part of something bigger than me and that my ancestors are in every space with me. This piece is also a reminder to the young Black women whom I encounter as an educator. I want each one of them to know and feel and believe that the limitations that might be imposed by their circumstances will fade away as they keep pressing forward towards their goals.”
