Theme: Dialogue with Nature

To me, the forms of nature I encounter in daily life are not mere objects, but rather cherished friends. I constantly dream of communicating and communing with them with a deeply sincere heart.

My work encapsulates the vibrant, continuous cycle of the four seasons. From the delicate beauty of petals and leaves blooming anew each season, to the resilient vitality of young sprouts breaking through rough tree bark, and to the modest cosmos blossoming by the roadside, these fragments of nature are the very first to whisper the changing of the seasons to us. Capturing these moments of connection, I translate the gentle currents of love flowing between nature and myself into simplified forms and colours, weaving them into my artwork.

Rather than pursuing complex aesthetics, I express this inner landscape through restrained lines, using mulberry pulp as my primary medium.

Instead of relying on a diversity of colours, I focus on maximizing textural effects by freely expressing the variations of relief (bas-relief) through the inherent elasticity and strength of the mulberry pulp. The resulting low-relief effect creates a rich variety of shadows depending on the height and the direction of light, allowing the viewer to perceive a subtle "change of colour" atop the nuanced white of the Hanji.
