My work explores transformation, creation, and impermanence.
I paint compositions where figures merge with botanical imagery, their organic forms mirroring one another. There is a natural synergy, as the blended images take on their own meaning and emotional resonance.
Oil paint provides a flexibility to build up and wipe away. The slow drying time allows me to make constant adjustments before a permanent image is cured on the canvas. Each piece is carefully honed through an intuitive process of constant transformation, so it can evolve through accumulation and erasure. The paint can be thinned and applied as a transparent glaze, allowing layers of veiled impressions in the same painting. It can also be applied in thick, gestural brushstrokes, conveying intention and emotion.
The work reflects the self as something fluid, shaped by experience, environment, and continual change.
