Kelly Dunnington

“Two At Sunset”

12” x 12”

Paper Collage, Acrylic Paint

$350

My work is a celebration of the quiet joy found in everyday moments. I turn to familiar subjects - blooms, birds and the rhythms of nature - and reimagine them as layered, tactile compositions that speak to connection, comfort, and delight.

Each piece begins as a painted image, but the process quickly becomes one of deconstruction and rebuilding. I create a personal “vocabulary” of hand-painted rice papers and fragments of recycled text, then carefully assemble these elements into a new whole. Through this layered approach, I shift the focus away from strict realism and toward an exploration of colour, shape, and texture. The result is a surface that invites both visual and physical engagement.

Rather than asking for deep interpretation, my art is meant to be experienced slowly and intuitively. I invite viewers to look closely—to notice repeating patterns, unexpected textures, and the way small, handmade details come together to form something cohesive and alive. My hope is that viewers are able to appreciate the beauty of the handmade, and to find simple, positive connections within the everyday.
