Recycled Map Paper Collage with Gouache & Cold Wax

This work continues my series of Origami Sketches. These abstract landscapes are crafted from maps sourced from a vintage Canadian atlas. Each map cut into squares, painted with matte gouache, and folded into simple origami forms. Once assembled, the geometric compositions evoke elements of water, land, sun and sky; the unfolded squares revealing intricate, architectural structures of town & country. Through the translucent layers of paint & cold wax, fragments of the country's original details remain visible, reassembled into a new visual narrative.
