Heather Cook
I’ve always spent at home in nature. Ever since I was a little girl, I would often be found mucking in the dirt, climbing trees or longing to bring a neighbourhood critter in as a pet. When I began painting, it only seemed natural that I would create pieces inspired by the outdoors.
Being a self taught artist, I have worked hard to hone in on my skills. My goal as an artist is to bring my paintings to “life”. I love how art is similar to a good book, you lose yourself in it. If I can make a viewer feel as if they can reach out and touch the subject matter, I then feel like I have created a successful piece. I believe I acheive this feeling by painting a crisp white background and creating high detail in my subject matter.
I paint using acrylics mixed with different mediums to create my paintings. I enjoy experimenting with different textures featuring animals (often Canadian) and natural items.
