Hilary Slater

Hilary Slater has been painting in watercolour for over 35 years. She recently began developing a means of preparing large-scale watercolour mounted on board, allowing the viewer to see the paper surface, rather than having the restriction of glass. She is known for her line of work surface treatment on her paintings, as it gives a meditative layering that the eye follows as it flows through the piece

Since moving to Tiny, Georgian Bay, Hilary’s work has focused on Landscapes particularly Killarney, Algonquin and Lake Superior. She also travelled to Labrador in 2019, which has influenced her focus on rocks and geological stories in her work.

Hilary’s receipt of the prestigious Clerkson Award in 2017 as well as her 3rd place prize at the Kleinburg Plein Air Competition in 2018, has placed her in the caliber of ‘Artists to Watch’ in our region.
